Wilson Trust Workshop:
Color Theory 101 and The History of Knitting
with Tanis Gray
November 8 from 10 am – noon when Tanis Gray shared her knowledge on color theory and on the history of knitting. This session was the first to be sponsored by funds from the Caron Wilson Trust donation.
Color Theory 101
We will dive into the fascinating science of color and how our brains perceive it, with a special focus on its role in knitting. We’ll explore color theory, the physics of light, and the psychology of perception—uncovering why certain hues harmonize, clash, or shift depending on context. You will come away with a deeper understanding of how to use color with intention, creating projects that are not only beautiful but also visually dynamic and emotionally resonant. This will provide a great foundation for Varian Brandon’s colorwork presentation at our November 10 guild meeting.
The History of Knitting
Journey through time in this fascinating lecture on the history of knitting—from its earliest known examples in ancient Egypt to the vibrant traditions and innovations of today. We’ll explore how knitting has evolved across cultures and centuries, tracing the threads that connect the past to the present, and celebrating the craft’s enduring role in creativity, community, and daily life.
Dyeing at Rows & Roses
You asked for it, and SCKG delivered… we are having a DYEING CLASS with Sati Glenn of Rows and Roses in Seneca! October 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sati has extensive dye experience in both yarn and fiber.
Meet A Designer with Yumiko Alexander
We’re excited to have national designer Yumiko Alexander join us 1-2 p.m. Saturday, April 26th on Zoom. Yumiko will discuss incorporating non-shaping garments into our wardrobes, followed by a question and answer period.
Yumiko, born and raised in Japan, came to the US in her 20s with her husband and settled in Chandler, Arizona where in 2006 she started her design and yarn company – DanDoh. Her love of knitting and crochet combined with her desire to create simple yet elegant signature go-to pieces, she says her
designs honor the many facets of her life, including her Japanese heritage. Yumiko focuses on creating simple shapes, rich textures and unique stitch patterns that flatter all body types. Many of her patterns are great for life in warm climates like South Carolina. While designing for others, she also says, “I design things I would like to have in my closet.” Her designs cover a nice range of knitwear including pullovers, cardigans, shawls, bags and neckwear. Dandoh also sells yarn – cotton, silk/cotton, and linen – that provide the perfect compliment and drape for Yumiko’s designs. Check out her stunning patterns on her DanDoh by Yumiko Alexander Ravelry page, follow her on her Facebook page Yumiko Alexander (DanDoh), or visit her website www.dandoh.com.
